DIY College Ball

Hi Guys!

The other night I had my College Ball and am proud to announce I did my own fake tan, makeup AND hair all by myself. I figured I'd had enough practice with doing my makeup etc. that I should save my money and use the many materialistic, beauty related things I already own. It was difficult not to cave in and book myself a few appointments but I resisted the urge and was very pleased with the outcome.

This is how it looked...

Makeup:

- MAC prep+prime primer
- MAC Studio Sculpt foundation
- Maybelline Age Rewind concealer
- Elizabeth Arden Sheer Lights Illuminating Pen in the shade "Soft" #01
- Rimmel Stay Matte powder in #001 "Translucent"
- Hoola Bronzer by Benefit
- MAC powder blush in "Pinch Me"
- MAC highlighter in "Soft and Gentle"
- MAC eyeshadow in "Mystery" to fill in eyebrows
- MAC clear brow gel
- MAC prep+prime eye primer in the shade "Light"
- Models Prefer Kohl eye pencil in "Black" on smudged out on the outer corner of the eye
- theBalm Nude'tude palette using: Sassy, Sultry, Sleek and Serious
- Models Prefer Black Kohl eye pencil in "Black" on the tight line
- Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl eye pencil  in #005 "Nude" on the waterline
- theBalm Schwing liquid eyeliner in "Black" for the cat eye
- Maybelline Volum' Express Falsies mascara in "Black"
- MAC lip liner pencil in the shade "Brick"
- MAC matte lipstick in the shade "Ruby Woo"
- Eylure Katy Perry False Lashes in "Oh Honey"
- Napoleon Perdis Makeup Setting Spray

Fake Tan:

- Bondi Sands tanning mousse in the shade "Dark" (I used two coats)

Hair:

- Toni&Guy shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair
- TRESemme keratin smooth heat protection shine spray
- GHD hair straightener

Outfit:

- Dress from Lipsy London
- Earrings from Lovisa
- Shoes from Zu

The night was fantastic and if I could do it all over again, I would. I was super happy that I didn't waste a tonne of money on getting my hair and makeup done and in the future I will continue to do everything myself. It's also a great idea because it eliminates the risk factor of hating what the hair stylist or makeup artist has done, which can result in a complete waste of money.

Note: It's a good idea to practice your hair and makeup look before the event just in case you need to make a few changes and to ensure you're 100% happy with how it looks.

Have any of you done your hair and makeup for a ball or do you prefer to get it done?

Mid-year Resolutions

It's gotten to that time of year where all the resolutions you've made on New Year's Eve have gone down the drain, at least in my case anyway, and it's time to reevaluate life goals. Kind of like a half way point check in. Who said resolutions can't be made any time of the year?

I feel a bit like I've lost my motivation which was absolutely firing at the beginning of the year, and rather than dropping off until 2015 I want to pick myself back up again and finish off 2014 with a bang! If you can relate, try having a go at this too :)

Number one is a little cliche and typical but it's all to do with health and fitness. Since living on campus at University I've really lost my knack for cooking meals each night and going outside for fresh air and exercise. I spend far too much time on the interwebz and far too much time indoors. Not only that but my sleeping patterns aren't all that flash either and all of these things combined have left me tired, lethargic and just generally feeling grubby.

Number two is YouTube; something I've been hanging out to start for such a long time and I can't fathom why I haven't started it yet. I have tried filming a couple videos so far but each one I just haven't been happy with. I'm not a massive perfectionist but when it's something that really means a lot to me I sometimes hold back with the fear of failing. The quote, 'don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game' very much applies to me at the moment.

Keep you're eyes peeled for my first video to come out :)

Number three is purely to start becoming more involved. Involved at college, involved in conversations and just generally coming across as a more confident person. I'm not necessarily shy but my lack of self confidence and self esteem is sinking rather low as of late and it's not something I enjoy. I just want to live in the moment a little more and dwell less on the little things in life that honestly aren't that important.

So these are my mid-year resolutions and they're not starting tomorrow or the day after that, they're starting this very minute.

If you feel you could to with a little pick me up mid way through the year, comment below you're resolutions and we can encourage each other in a positive environment :)

Peer Pressure

Spur of the moment post really, but also completely necessary and if just one person reads this and takes away some valuable advice that makes their life better...I've done my job!

As many of you well know, I'm currently living on campus at University.  Don't get me wrong, college is great fun most of the time, but their are aspects about it I don't particularly like. At college I've experienced a great deal of peer pressure to go out all the time, to drink all the time and to just be someone that I'm well, not.

How did I get myself out of this? Well, it took a lot of time and realisation that no, I don't have to listen to what other people say and if somebody can't accept things for what they are then do you really need that kind of a person in your life? I know it sounds harsh but I did a lot of thinking and I realised that this isn't just a college thing, it's something everybody goes through in life and it's just a part of growing up and learning that it takes real character and strength to stay true to who you are (aweee vom).

I always felt guilty when I missed an event or hard on myself when I felt I wasn't 'in' with particular crowds but then I thought, really Issy? It's individual character that's most important, it's doing what makes you the most happy that's important, is it really worth worrying about what other people think of you? No. It really isn't. Think about it, accept it, move on.

I knew this kind of thing would happen when I moved to college and my parents warned me about it constantly, but I actually think that there are some parts of growing up you just can't do by being told. You need to be thrown into the deep end, experience it the hard way, make a few life mistakes and then come to a realisation within yourself and LEARN from them.

Anyway, I just wanted you all to know that you're beautiful people in your own special way and never feel guilty for being just who you are. Peer pressure will not get the better of you!!!

Much Love

Secret Garden

The other day as I was wandering around campus, I had a fortunate stroke of serendipity; an isolated pathway that is perfectly serene and picturesque. I happened to have my good camera with me at the time and was able to take a couple shots, so I thought I would share them with you!

There were big weeping willow trees with little wooden seats underneath, a moat with tiny waterfalls, big goldfish, flowers and ducks. The perfect place for me at University if I ever need some peace and quiet or time to myself.

Do you have a place you like to go for peace and quiet?
